K Bank Introduces AI Technology to Prevent ID Card Forgery Incidents

K Bank is enhancing its identification card recognition technology to prevent forgery incidents. On the 9th, K Bank announced that it has introduced AI optical character recognition (OCR) technology in collaboration with a video recognition artificial intelligence (AI) specialist company.

With the introduction of this technology, the identification card recognition capability has significantly improved. Recognition speed has been reduced by up to 80% compared to before, and textual information on ID cards such as names and resident registration numbers can now be recognized more accurately. Even in situations where identification is difficult due to shaking or light glare, the recognition rate has been found to reach 100%.

To support elderly customers and others unfamiliar with mobile environments, guidance on how to take photos of ID cards has also been strengthened. For this purpose, guides and tips explaining easy photo-taking methods are provided during the ID card photographing step. In addition to text instructions, examples of ID card photos are provided as images to help customers understand visually. If a customer fails to verify the authenticity of their ID card, detailed explanations of the failure reasons are given, and smooth retaking is supported.

Security has also been enhanced as forgery detection begins immediately upon photographing the ID card. Until now, the system operated a dual detection process where AI would analyze the stored photo in real time for forgery, and relevant department staff would perform a secondary visual inspection.

A K Bank official stated, “Since ID card recognition is essential for using major banking services such as account opening and loan execution, we expect to provide more convenient banking services through faster and more accurate ID card recognition,” adding, “We will continue to pursue various technological innovations to offer convenient and secure financial services.”
