Nam Hyun-hee Firmly Denies Conspiracy Allegations

Nam appeared at the police station around 9:50 a.m. that day and underwent a police investigation once in the morning as a suspect. The confrontation investigation between Nam and Jeon began around 2 p.m. and ended at 8 p.m., lasting six hours.
Reviewing the investigation records took an additional three and a half hours, so Nam and her legal team only left the interrogation room around 11:30 p.m. Present at the confrontation interrogation were Nam, Jeon, two legal representatives for Nam, two legal representatives for Jeon, and one parent from Nam’s fencing academy who filed the complaint, making it a three-party meeting. The main issue during the confrontation was whether Nam was aware of Jeon’s criminal acts and whether she conspired with him.
According to those accompanying the confrontation interrogation, the atmosphere in the interrogation room was cold and tense. As soon as the investigation began, Nam irritably said to Jeon, "What are you looking at?" In response, the police arranged the speaking order to ensure smooth progress and prevented Nam and Jeon from speaking directly to each other.
The primary focus of the confrontation investigation was whether Nam was aware of Jeon’s crimes and whether she conspired in them. Nam’s side reportedly strongly denied any suspicion of being an accomplice. They stated that during the nine months they had known Jeon, they had never heard a word about any fraud or investment-related crimes.

Earlier, just before the investigation, Nam posted on her social media (SNS) in the early hours of the 8th, stating, "Except for the name, everything about Jeon Cheong-jo was a lie, and I was deceived as well," and claimed, "Jeon sent his belongings to our house to frame me as an accomplice."
She also expressed her frustration, saying, "For 26 years, I wore the Taegeuk mark on my chest and dedicated my life to promoting national honor. I don’t know how much longer I can endure this. Do I really have to die for this case to end?"
On the other hand, Jeon’s side maintained their position that Nam was aware of the crimes. Jeon’s legal team, speaking to reporters after the investigation, said, "Jeon had already told Nam about the crimes since March this year," and "The victim’s side agreed that Nam was aware of Jeon’s criminal acts."
They added, "The investigation was scheduled to be lengthy today, but Nam suddenly said she was very ill, so the investigation was halted after dinner," and "We hope Nam recovers quickly and participates in additional investigations."
Jeon’s side also expressed regret that Nam did not voluntarily submit two of her mobile phones, saying, "If they are submitted later, more evidence is expected to be gathered."
Jeon, who was introduced as Nam’s remarriage partner but later became embroiled in fraud allegations, was arrested on the 3rd on charges of embezzling large sums of money under the pretext of investment from people she met through lectures and other activities (fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes). Police estimate that there are 20 victims and the total fraud amount is about 2.6 billion won.
The police plan to transfer Jeon to the prosecution on the 10th, when her detention period expires.
