Finding Daegu's Representative Food 'Mungtigi' During the Presidential Election
"We Will Be a Warm Government for Small Business Owners"

President Yoon Suk-yeol, who visited Daegu after 7 months, enjoyed a 'Mungtigi' lunch.

Earlier, during the presidential election in February, Yoon Suk-yeol, then a presidential candidate, held a microphone at Wolbae Market in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, and asked the residents, "Mungtigi, do you still have it these days?" The residents responded with enthusiastic applause and cheers at the mention of Mungtigi.

He continued, "I started my social life in Daegu. (At that time) I often came to Dalseo-gu, and Wolbae area was a place where I frequently had company dinners with my staff at the end of the month with Mungtigi and soju."

Mungtigi is one of the ten local dishes known as the 'Daegu 10 Flavors.' It is listed alongside Ddaro-gukbap, Dongin-dong Jjim Galbi, Nonmegi Maeuntang, Pufferfish Bulgogi, Nurun Guksu, Muchimhoe, Yaki Udon, Napjak Mandu, and Makchang Gui. After President Yoon, known as a gourmet, mentioned Mungtigi, it became a particularly popular menu item among the ten flavors of Daegu.

About 1 year and 9 months later, on the 7th, President Yoon visited Chilseong General Market, a representative traditional market in Daegu, and ate Mungtigi with market merchants.

He toured various stores, purchased goods, and directly listened to the market merchants about the current economic situation. Then, he had lunch with market merchants and local lawmakers, sharing sogomtang and ‘Mungtigi,’ which refers to Daegu-style raw meat, encouraging the merchants facing difficulties.

At a conference held at EXCO, President Yoon said, "I came back to Daegu after 7 months. Coming to Daegu gives me strength."

He added, "The international community is paying attention to our Republic of Korea," and stated, "The Barun Society Movement is a movement to improve quality of life, eradicate lies and corruption, and create a righteous society. It is a moral restoration movement that practices love for family, neighbors, and the country."

President Yoon said, "I understand that the Barun Society Movement is also leading the fight against fake news," and added, "I believe it will firmly protect our human rights and democratic politics."

On the 19th of last month, President Yoon declared, "I will delve deeper into the difficult livelihood sites starting with myself," and since then, he has continued his visits to livelihood sites by meeting ordinary citizens, holding national dialogues, and emergency economic meetings.

After attending the memorial service for the late President Park Chung-hee at the National Cemetery in Seoul on the 26th of last month and meeting former President Park Geun-hye, he visited Daegu on this day, which is interpreted as strengthening his support base in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk (TK) region ahead of the general election.
