"User Base Surpasses 100 Million"... Challenging Apple with 'GPT Store' (Comprehensive)

OpenAI Holds First Developer Conference in San Francisco
Unveils Enhanced Latest 'GPT-4 Turbo'

At the end of last year, OpenAI, which launched the generative artificial intelligence (AI) 'ChatGPT,' held its first developer conference and unveiled new business plans through personalized services and the establishment of a GPT marketplace.

On the 6th (local time), OpenAI announced at its first developer conference (Dev Day) held in San Francisco, California, USA, that it had developed a service (GPTs) that allows anyone to easily create customized chatbots.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said in his keynote speech, "You can build the software you need just by conversing with GPT without having to code yourself." Altman added, "In the future, users will see customized AI chatbots in more places, including frequently used apps and websites."

OpenAI will also launch the 'GPT Store' at the end of this month, where created GPTs can be traded. Similar to purchasing apps from Apple's App Store, users can find customized GPTs made by others and generate revenue from the GPTs they create. However, specific revenue structures such as payment fees for the GPT Store have not been disclosed.

A British foreign media outlet noted, "Apple entered the software business by launching the app marketplace 'App Store' exactly one year after releasing the iPhone," and said, "OpenAI's move today is a direct follow of Apple's past."

On the same day, OpenAI also unveiled an enhanced AI model, ‘GPT-4 Turbo.’ This model provides answers based on data learned up to April. The previous version, GPT-4, contained information learned only up to January of last year. This model can analyze more than 300 pages of information at once. Previously, only up to 3,000 words were possible.

CEO Altman said, "GPT-4 Turbo will be provided first to developers and will be released to the public within weeks."

Altman emphasized, "OpenAI currently has 100 million weekly active users, and more than 92% of Fortune 500 companies use OpenAI technology."

Meanwhile, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft (MS), OpenAI's largest investor, made a surprise appearance at Dev Day. Nadella joined Altman on stage and said, "OpenAI has built a magical GPT," emphasizing, "They have made it so that everyone can benefit from AI technology."

He added, "Since partnering with OpenAI, there have been remarkable advancements in MS’s various developer tools and cloud business," and said, "We will do our best to ensure the best systems are available with OpenAI."
