Nam Hyun-hee (42), a former national fencing athlete, claimed that she was inevitably deceived about gender by her ex-lover Jeon Cheong-jo (27) after revealing childhood photos of Jeon.
On the 4th, Nam's side disclosed several childhood photos of Jeon that they received via KakaoTalk (KakaoTalk) from Jeon in April to SBS Entertainment News.
Nam's side stated, "Many people suspect Director Nam as an accomplice, saying 'A woman in her 40s who has experienced marriage and childbirth would not have been deceived by Jeon Cheong-jo's gender fraud,'" adding, "Jeon told Director Nam that 'although he has a male identity, he was mistakenly born with a female body, and later suffered from gender dysphoria and underwent sex reassignment surgery to become a man.'" As evidence for this claim, Nam's side revealed several childhood photos sent by Jeon.
The photos included in the KakaoTalk conversation show a young boy dressed in boys' hanbok, a suit with a white shirt and black shorts, a taekwondo uniform, and a swimsuit. Jeon claimed to Nam that this child was himself.
Nam's side asserted, "Jeon suddenly called his mother and said, 'Mom, please send me some old photos,' and then passed the photos received from his mother to Nam. After seeing the photos, Nam had no choice but to believe Jeon’s words and felt sympathy for Jeon, who had undergone a difficult (sex reassignment) surgery." They also emphasized, "Jeon Cheong-jo’s behavior of committing marriage fraud while switching between genders is so unusual and bizarre that it is hard to accept easily, but the claim that Nam knowingly colluded is not true."
Previously, on the 30th of last month, Nam appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and said, "When he first came to learn fencing, he himself (Jeon Cheong-jo) said he was a '28-year-old woman.'" On the same day, Jeon stated in an interview with Channel A, "I am currently legally female. I have not undergone sex reassignment surgery and am in the process of becoming a man," but later showed a fake ID card with a resident registration number starting with 1 to the SBS 'Curious Story Y' production team, claiming he was male, thus contradicting his earlier statement.
Jeon was arrested by the police on the 31st of last month on charges of receiving about 1.9 billion won from at least 15 victims (fraud and attempted fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes). On the 3rd, the court issued an arrest warrant for Jeon, citing "risk of flight and unstable residence."
