'Mask Festival' Held on the 2nd at Konkuk University Food Street Hosted by Konkuk Shopping District Promotion Association
A Cultural Festival Blending Unique Atmosphere... Popular with Many Visitors Including Youth
Audience Drawn to Mask Wearing... Rich Performances Including Popera and Musicals
On the 2nd, the 'Mask Festival' filled with youthful energy was successfully held at Kondae Mat-ui Street in Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho).
Kondae Mat-ui Street, a university district commercial area, is known as the 'Street of Youth' due to the large number of young people in their 20s and 30s. It is always lively with various attractions such as popular restaurants, shopping, and entertainment facilities.
Accordingly, a cultural festival reflecting the unique characteristics of Kondae Mat-ui Street was held. The Kondae Merchants' Association (President Lee Ok-hee) organized the event, supported by Gwangjin-gu and Seoul City, to open the festival for young people and local merchants.
First, as a preliminary event, 'I am also a Singing King,' an impromptu singing contest, took place. In keeping with the festival's name, participants wore masks while singing, and the audience also wore masks to cheer, attracting attention.
During the main event, a rich performance reminiscent of Venice, Italy, was presented. Passionate stages including pop-opera (pop-era), fusion ensembles, musicals, and popular songs delighted both the eyes and ears.
Along with the diverse performances, foot traffic to various shops such as restaurants surrounding Kondae Mat-ui Street did not cease. The festival, which continued until 8 p.m., was bustling with over 500 visitors.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I would like to thank the Kondae Merchants' Association and many others who have worked hard to revitalize Kondae Mat-ui Street,” adding, “We will actively communicate and work with merchants so that this place can be reborn as a newer and more developed space.”
