Gyeonggi Province will hold a tea gathering for suicide bereaved families.
On the 3rd, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will hold a tea gathering event called "Dodam Totak (A day to warmly comfort the residents)" on the 7th at Dodamso (the former governor's residence) to console suicide bereaved families.
Hosted by Gyeonggi Province and organized by the Gyeonggi Suicide Prevention Center, this event will be held for the first time this year for suicide bereaved families, with about 40 participants including suicide bereaved families and related agency workers.
This tea gathering is arranged to activate self-help groups for suicide bereaved families and to listen to various opinions. The program includes viewing the painting "I Will Hug You" by artist Won Eun-hee inside Dodamso, a lecture on ways to boost self-esteem by instructor Kim Mi-kyung, and a popera performance.
Yeon Ji-bit, Director of Mental Health at Gyeonggi Province, said, "Due to prejudice and stigma against suicide bereaved families, it is difficult for them to even express the grief of losing a family member," adding, "We will make further efforts to create a suicide-safe Gyeonggi Province."
Meanwhile, the number of suicide deaths in Gyeonggi Province last year was about 3,100.
