The prosecution investigating allegations of preferential treatment in the development of Baekhyun-dong has requested an arrest warrant for a real estate agent accused of receiving a large sum of money under the pretext of halting the investigation from Jeong Ba-ul (67, detained and indicted), chairman of Asia Developer.
The Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Yong-sik) filed an arrest warrant request on the 2nd for Lee Mo (68), former chairman of KH Food Development, on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
Lee is accused of approaching Chairman Jeong, who was under investigation for preferential treatment allegations related to Baekhyun-dong development from May last year to June this year. He allegedly persuaded Jeong by saying, "I know the police, prosecutors, and judges well. I will prevent the investigation and issuance of an arrest warrant," and received about 1 billion KRW over several occasions.
The prosecution arrested Lee the day before. They plan to secure his custody and investigate whether he actually attempted to halt the investigation.
Chairman Jeong, who handed money to Lee, is currently detained and on trial for embezzling and breach of trust amounting to about 48 billion KRW from Seongnam R&D PFV, the project company for Baekhyun-dong development.
