Jae-young An, a student in the Department of Industrial Design at Dong-A University, won the grand prize at the '2023 Gyeongnam K-Design Awards.'
The 'Gyeongnam K-Design Awards' is an event hosted by Gyeongnam Province to discover local design talents and revitalize the design industry.
The '2023 Gyeongnam K-Design Awards,' held under the themes of free topic and special topic (aerospace), received 815 entries across four categories: product & craft, visual & information, digital media & content, and space, environment & service. After two rounds of judging, 25 winning works were finally selected.
Jae-young An proposed the 'Assist Walker & Wheelchair' in the general topic category of this contest and was honored with the grand prize.
The 'Assist Walker & Wheelchair' is a mobility aid device for the mobility-impaired that can be easily converted from a walker to a wheelchair, receiving high praise from the judges.
Jae-young An said, "I feel rewarded for working hard on my school assignments, and I am happy to have been recognized for my efforts," adding, "I am grateful to Professors Dong-ik Cha, Hyun-seok Han, and Jae-hyung Byun for their guidance."
The awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on the 15th at Seongsan Art Hall in Changwon, Gyeongnam.
The winning works will be exhibited until the 5th at 'Design Korea 2023,' the largest design festival hosted by the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, and can also be seen for five days from the 15th to the 19th at Seongsan Art Hall in Changwon.
