Special Exhibition of Artworks by 55 Young Artists in Seocho-gu

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) is hosting a special exhibition supporting the independence of young artists at the Yujung Art Center in Seocho-gu until December 27.

The Seocho Young Artists Special Exhibition showcases over 120 works by 55 young artists who participated in the '2023 Young Gallery Support Project,' with the exhibition having started on October 31.

Through the Young Gallery Support Project, the district has connected young artists with local cafes to exhibit and sell their works through the 'Young Cafe Gallery.' In March this year, the 'Seoripul Bus Stop Gallery' was held at bus stops, and since September, 26 young artists' works have been displayed on distribution boxes along Bangbae-ro in the 'Distribution Box Gallery.' In November, the 'Alleyway Gallery' is scheduled to operate.

By utilizing various spaces like these, the project provides exhibition opportunities for young artists, receiving great responses. Not only exhibitions but also sales are expected to help improve the economic independence of the artists. Over the past five years, the Young Gallery Support Project has exhibited more than 700 works by 230 young artists in local cafes and other venues. Among these, 34 pieces were sold, generating approximately 20 million KRW in revenue.

Through this special exhibition, the district is providing young artists with spaces to exhibit and sell their works, while offering residents a cultural exchange venue to enjoy art close to home.

On October 31, the district held an opening ceremony and docent tour for the special exhibition with 55 participating artists and local residents. The exhibition is held at the Yujung Art Center (178 Bangbae-ro, Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu) and is open for viewing on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. until December 27. The exhibited works are also available for purchase, and the sales proceeds are expected to support the active artistic activities of the young artists.

Among the 55 young artists, 12 are artists with developmental disabilities, who have equal opportunities to exhibit alongside non-disabled young artists.

Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “I hope this special exhibition will be an opportunity for young artists to realize their dreams as professional artists and to widely promote youth art,” adding, “We will continue to support young artists with growth potential.”
