Students from Dongseo University recently won the Grand Prize at the 9th Busan Startup Idea Competition held at the Asti Hotel in Busan.
This competition was organized to discover challenging startup ideas and promote the local startup culture, targeting university students nationwide as well as high school students from Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam.
This year’s competition was hosted by Busan City and co-organized by the Busan Economic Promotion Agency, Dongseo University, Pusan National University, and Busan Catholic University, with the theme “Startup Ideas in Busan’s 7 Strategic Industries and Innovation Technology Fields.”
A total of 91 teams comprising 303 high school and university students applied to this competition aimed at discovering promising startups with innovative ideas, and 10 teams advanced to the finals.

The Windbreaker team, which won the Grand Prize in the university division, consisted of Park Chanyoung, Shin Yonghan, Kang Jingu, and Kim Yoonji from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Dongseo University.
The team proposed “Reducing Coastal Building Wind and Developing Eco-friendly Wind Power Technology Utilizing Coastal Building Wind,” an innovative idea inspired by Busan’s regional characteristics, which received high praise.
Student Park Chanyoung said, “Winning the Grand Prize was possible thanks to the help of my teammates and the guidance of the professors in the Department of Architectural Engineering. I am grateful that preparing for the competition allowed us to further develop our individual capabilities.”
Dongseo University provided intensive expert consulting to the teams that passed the preliminary round and those who advanced to the finals, and plans to continue follow-up support to activate student startups on campus.
