On the 1st, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education announced that according to the employment statistics survey for vocational high school graduates released by the Ministry of Education, it achieved a final employment rate of 66.7% (national average 55.7%), ranking first among 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
The Ministry of Education and the Korea Educational Development Institute conduct an employment statistics survey for vocational high school graduates every year as of April 1st by linking with public databases (DB) to ensure the objectivity and reliability of vocational high school employment rates.
Since the survey began in 2020, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education has maintained the highest employment rate nationwide for four consecutive years.
Last year, a job fair for companies participating in the Vocational Education Innovation District was held in Pohang, organized by the Gyeongbuk Office of Education.
The advancement rate to higher education for vocational high school graduates from the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, announced together this time, was 29.2% (national average 47.0%), showing the lowest result nationwide.
This demonstrates that vocational high schools in Gyeongbuk are conducting customized education tailored to students' individual talents and aptitudes in line with the vocational education direction of 'employment and skilled worker training,' thereby enhancing students' competitiveness in related fields.
The secret to these achievements lies in curriculum restructuring and school reorganization aligned with changing times and consumer demands, the Gyeongbuk-type apprenticeship project as a regional specialty business, and the operation of customized employment education programs desired by companies, fostering convergent talents needed in future industrial sites. At the center of this is the Gyeongbuk Office of Education Employment Support Center, which has played a control tower role, according to analysis.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, said, “The reason the employment rate of vocational high schools under the Gyeongbuk Office of Education has been the highest nationwide for four consecutive years is the discovery of jobs tailored to industrial demand and systematic employment competency enhancement programs that support vocational high school students to grow into excellent skilled workers.” He added, “We will take the lead in establishing an industry-academia cooperation system and providing an advanced educational environment so that Gyeongbuk vocational education can become a global standard in vocational education, nurturing technical and skilled talents equipped with both character and skills.”
