Two Police Officers Injured in Stabbing Incident in Front of Presidential Office... Arrest Warrants to Be Requested (Comprehensive)

The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced on the 31st that they arrested Park Mo (77) on the spot on charges of special obstruction of official duties causing injury.

Park is accused of shouting loudly in front of the Ministry of National Defense main gate around 1:20 p.m. that day, and when police officers on duty tried to stop him, he took out a weapon from his bag and stabbed one officer in the abdomen and another in the left arm.

The officers involved belong to the 202 Security Unit responsible for outer perimeter security of the Presidential Office. They were taken to the hospital with wounds to their arms and abdomen, but the injuries are reported to be not severe. However, the officer stabbed in the abdomen underwent a minor suturing surgery and may need to be hospitalized.

Park is a habitual protester near the Presidential Office, and it was investigated that he committed the crime while attempting to file a grievance related to pension receipt that day.

A police official stated about Park, "We plan to review his medical history to determine if he shows signs of mental illness and to investigate the detailed circumstances of the crime," adding, "Since the case itself is serious, we intend to apply for an arrest warrant for a strict investigation."
