Dobby Secures 200 Million, Invests Total 400 Million to Establish Workation Hub Office
Yeosu City, a representative tourist destination in South Korea, has been finally selected for the 2023 Blue Workation Contest organized by Jeollanam-do, raising expectations that it will also attract attention as a tourism-linked workplace.
According to the city on the 31st, having been selected for the 2023 Blue Workation Contest organized by Jeollanam-do, it secured 200 million KRW in provincial funds and will invest a total of 400 million KRW in the project, including establishing a workation base office on the 3rd floor of Building D, International Pavilion, Yeosu Expo Site, to promote the workation project.
"Workation" is a compound word of Work and Vacation, meaning a tourism-linked work system.
The Jeonnam Blue Workation Contest, launched for the first time this year, is part of Jeollanam-do’s three core population policies called "Playing and Working, Island and Province J-Workation." It is a project promoted through city and county contests to build workation infrastructure by utilizing Jeonnam’s excellent tourism resources.
In this contest, Yeosu was selected as Jeollanam-do’s first Blue Workation project site due to its high scores for connectivity with surrounding tourist resources such as the marine cable car and easy access to major tourist attractions and convenience facilities by walking.
Along with this, Yeosu City signed a written agreement to establish a mutual cooperation system with the Jeollanam-do Tourism Foundation and the Seoul Business Agency to smoothly promote the Jeonnam Blue Workation project.
Accordingly, the three organizations plan to actively attract workation-participating companies by planning and operating region-specific workation programs for users, starting with local companies and expanding promotional targets within the region.
A city official said, "The Yeosu Expo Site is a meaningful place that led Yeosu tourism by attracting 8.2 million visitors during the 2012 Yeosu World Expo," adding, "By establishing a base office at the Yeosu Expo Site, we will offer the best accessibility and attractiveness in Jeonnam and revitalize the tourism industry once again."
