Gimhae Citizens to Receive Major Discounts on Pohang~Ulleungdo~Dokdo Ferry Fares Starting November

Gimhae City-Daejeo Shipping, Discount Business Agreement for Gimhae Citizens

Starting this November, residents of Gimhae, Gyeongnam will receive a 20-50% discount on ferry fares from Pohang to Ulleungdo and Dokdo.

Gimhae City announced on the 31st that it signed a 'Pohang~Ulleungdo~Dokdo Ferry Fare Discount Business Agreement' with Daejeo Shipping, a subsidiary of the local Gimhae company Daejeo Construction, for Gimhae citizens.

According to the city, under this agreement, starting this November, Gimhae citizens can purchase one-way tickets on the Eldorado Express from Pohang to Ulleungdo at discounted prices ranging from 15,900 KRW to up to 85,000 KRW depending on weekday, weekend discounts, and seat class.

When taking the Sunrise ferry from Ulleungdo to Dokdo, discounts range from 12,000 KRW to a maximum of 19,800 KRW.

The Pohang~Ulleungdo and Ulleungdo~Dokdo routes currently operated by Daejeo Shipping were launched in February 2014 when Daejeo Construction established Daejeo Shipping.

Daejeo Shipping is recognized as a company that has established a safe and comfortable sailing environment by deploying the large 3,158-ton, 970-passenger ultra-high-speed vessel, Eldorado Express, in June.

Daejeo Construction, regarded as a representative local company of Gimhae, has contributed to talent development since 1996, starting with the late Chairman Park Soon-gyu’s donation of the Chilam Library and founding a Taekwondo team in 2019.

It supports excellent performances at the National Sports Festival held this year in Mokpo and is also contributing efforts for the 105th National Sports Festival next year, with Gimhae as the main host city.

Mayor Hong Tae-yong said, “With the fare discount agreement for Gimhae citizens, there will be significant cost savings when visiting Ulleungdo,” adding, “We will continue to strive to develop tourism products that citizens can truly feel.”
