Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) held a handover ceremony on the 30th to donate literacy education booklets and children's books, self-produced by Eunpyeong-gu, for the 'Hangul School' project of the Bandung Korean Association, established during a visit to Indonesia.
Mayor Kim Mi-kyung decided to provide support after hearing about the shortage of Hangul textbooks during a meeting with the executives of the Bandung Korean Association while touring three cities in Indonesia at the end of August.
At that time, Mayor Kim learned that the Bandung Korean Association had established and was operating a Hangul school for second-generation Koreans who had not been exposed to Hangul, but faced difficulties securing textbooks due to rainwater flooding the storage warehouse. She promised to support textbooks and children's books. During the recent visit to Korea by former Bandung Korean Association President Eom Jeong-ho, a reunion took place, and along with the handover ceremony, a meeting was held with local businesspeople interested in expanding into Indonesia.
Former Bandung Korean Association President Eom Jeong-ho said, "Many Korean organizations visiting overseas have met with Korean associations, but it is very rare to maintain contact after returning to Korea. I am truly grateful for Eunpyeong-gu's sincerity."
Mayor Kim Mi-kyung stated, "Including this meaningful project for second-generation Koreans, the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information requested a visit to Eunpyeong-gu after attending a seminar held in Sumedang, Indonesia, where the smart city creation policy of Eunpyeong-gu was presented. Continuous exchanges are taking place," and added, "We will continue to pursue substantial international exchanges in the future."
