"This Is the Biggest Ever"... Startled by a 13cm Solitary Spider Spotted at a Vietnam Resort

At a resort in Phu Quoc, a popular Vietnamese vacation spot frequently visited by Koreans, a 13cm-sized venomous spider appeared, resulting in an electrician being bitten while on duty.

According to VN Express, a local Vietnamese media outlet, on the 30th, Yonhap News reported that an electrician working at a resort in Kien Giang Province, southern Vietnam, was bitten by a venomous spider and transported to a hospital. The electrician complained that his arm swelled severely after the bite and he felt pain throughout his body.

The hospital did not have an antivenom for the venomous spider, so the medical staff disinfected the electrician’s wound and administered only antibiotics. Fortunately, after about two hours, the electrician’s symptoms eased, and he was able to rest and then return home. The venomous spider that bit the electrician was 13cm in size, covered with hair all over its body, and reportedly hid in a dark corner before suddenly biting the electrician while he was repairing the electrical system. The resort caught the spider that bit the electrician and sent it to the hospital along with him for medical reference, but the species of the spider has not yet been identified.

The doctor in charge of treating the electrician said, “This is the second time a patient has come to the hospital bitten by a spider during the rainy season,” adding, “It is the first time I have seen such a large venomous spider.” He also urged, “During the rainy season, protective gear should be worn during outdoor activities to avoid being bitten by snakes, spiders, and insects.” Meanwhile, Phu Quoc, located at the southwestern tip of southern Vietnam, is a popular vacation destination among Korean travelers, ranking after Da Nang and Nha Trang, with the rainy season lasting from May to October.
