Global Young Talents Gather in Pohang! ... Promotion of 'Corporate Innovation Park' Attraction On the 28th, Pohang City held Startup Day (01·10000 STARTUP DAY) at Changbau Village Camping Site in Janggi-myeon.

This event began in June as a discourse to overcome various social issues such as regional extinction by fostering ESG-based startup companies as one of the practical measures to make Pohang a sustainable city, led by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Yoo Joong-geun, Chairman of the UN Academic Impact Korea Council.

Co-hosted and organized by Pohang City and Handong Global University, the event was attended by 120 participants including global youth leaders from the United States, Switzerland, Singapore, Vietnam, as well as prominent domestic impact investors, startups, and entrepreneurs.

On the day, participants engaged in passionate discussions about Pohang City’s plans to promote the inflow of companies and talent to overcome regional extinction, including the Corporate Innovation Park being prepared as a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport public project and the creation of a global startup ecosystem. They also held a network advisory group appointment ceremony and a performance wishing for the successful attraction of the Corporate Innovation Park to Pohang.

The Corporate Innovation Park is an industry-academia convergence-type corporate city development project based on private sector creativity for investment and development, aimed at overcoming regional extinction, which is one of the 120 major national tasks prioritized by the Yoon Seok-yeol administration.

Additionally, there was a special lecture by Cho Sung-hwan, CTO of NanoSelect, the first Korean bio startup company in San Diego, USA, for young local entrepreneurs. Twenty-two mentors and advisors from various fields closely engaged with participants in small groups to conduct startup acceleration.

Furthermore, against the beautiful backdrop of the nearby Sinchang Beach, a creative cultural and artistic performance by creator Kim Se-eun provided a networking opportunity where participants could communicate practically and gain inspiration.

Many startups, companies, and investors who participated in the event pledged to settle in Pohang if the global Corporate Innovation Park is established, recognizing that it would promote the creation of an innovative industrial ecosystem. They agreed that by creating various high-quality jobs and drastically improving living conditions, Pohang could attract global talent and present an innovative solution as a leading model of a regional city overcoming population decline.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok expressed his gratitude to the global youth leaders who came to Pohang for the event, stating, “We will definitely attract the global Corporate Innovation Park project by combining Pohang’s innovative DNA with the power of the global talent network.”

The event name ‘01·10000’ represents Yeongilman in binary code, the digital computer language of ‘0’ and ‘1’, symbolizing that Pohang is at the center of startup innovation continuing the identity of the Yeongilman miracle in the era of digital transformation.

Special guests included Kim Bong-hyun, Vice President of Bodax Bio, a global pharmaceutical company in the United States; Yang Ji-jun, Manager of digital health company Acumen; Daniel Long, CEO of Singapore’s global investment firm OliveTree Estate; Kim Jung-tae, CEO of domestic impact investment firm MYSC; as well as various youth leaders from D3 Jubilee Partners, Woori Technology Investment, the Bank Foundation for Young Entrepreneurs D.CAMP, FuturePlay, and others.
