This event, hosted by the Korea Pear Research Association and organized by the Rural Development Administration, is the largest pear festival held annually, rotating through major pear-producing regions.

The 'Shinhwa' pear that won the grand prize and highest award at this event is a variety developed by the Rural Development Administration. According to the center, it has an earlier harvest time compared to the existing 'Shingo' pear and its sugar content is 1 to 2 degrees Brix (°Bx) higher than 'Shingo'.

Previously, Anseong pears also won the grand prize with the same variety at the 2021 appraisal event.

Seo Dong-nam, head of the Technology Extension Division at the Anseong Agricultural Technology Center, said, "We will continue to work together with farmers to expand the distribution of excellent domestically developed varieties to revitalize the pear industry in Anseong-si."
