LG Uplus is strengthening its competitiveness in super-large AI services through its self-developed generative AI and collaboration with group companies and global big tech firms. On the 29th, LG Uplus announced that it will develop a telecommunications-tailored AI called ‘ixi-GEN’ by utilizing the telecommunications and platform data and AI technological capabilities it possesses. As a result, LG Uplus will be able to use ixi-GEN for telecommunications and platform services for its customers, and the super-large AI ‘EXAONE,’ developed in cooperation with LG AI Research, for expert-exclusive super-large AI services.

Evolution of AI Brand ‘ixi’... Development of Specialized LLM ‘ixi-GEN’ Trained on Telecommunications Data

The name ‘ixi-GEN’ combines ‘ixi’ and ‘Generative AI.’ It is a large language model (LLM) trained on LG Uplus’s telecommunications and platform data based on the source AI of EXAONE from LG AI Research. By additionally training on telecommunications and platform data, it provides services specialized for the telecommunications industry.


Since ixi-GEN is trained on LG Uplus’s telecommunications and platform data, it is expected to secure expertise in the telecommunications service field. The ixi-GEN service will be officially launched in the first half of next year. The chatbot based on ixi-GEN can provide highly personalized guidance ranging from customized product recommendations to sophisticated consultations for customers.

Advancement of AI Integrated Brand ‘ixi’... Applied to Various Services to Innovate Customer Value

Following the strategy to secure super-large AI competitiveness centered on ixi-GEN, LG Uplus will also advance its self-developed AI engines such as ▲search ▲recommendation ▲prediction ▲vision. By improving the performance of various AI engines under the integrated AI brand ‘ixi’ and applying them to LG Uplus’s various platforms, the company plans to offer differentiated benefits to customers. The ‘recommendation AI’ technology of ixi has been applied to the kids-only service ‘Idulnara’ and U+tv NEXT 2.0, leading to the advancement of the recommendation engine by utilizing 10 million daily customer usage data.

Strengthening Synergy with EXAONE 2.0... Enhancing Super-Large AI Competitiveness through Partnerships with Google and MS

Along with its self-developed ixi-GEN, LG Uplus plans to strengthen competitiveness through a three-pronged super-large AI strategy that includes EXAONE and AI from Google and Microsoft. As the first step, it plans to expand its business in the B2B sector using super-large AI. Additionally, it will enhance AICC by collaborating with ‘EXAONE 2.0,’ which has secured data expertise and reliability.


Hwang Gyu-byeol, CDO of LG Uplus, stated, “We will support the ‘U+3.0’ strategy to transform into a platform operator by providing differentiated AI services using data secured in telecommunications and platform areas.” He added, “Going forward, we will continue to advance AI services that better understand customers and provide new experiences based on various telecommunications service data.”
