Seongdong-gu, 2023 Disaster Response Safe Korea Training for Complex Disaster Preparedness

Conducted 'Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill' to Strengthen Complex Disaster Response Capabilities for Earthquakes, Fires, and Mass Crowd Incidents... Selected Seoul Forest Complex Culture and Sports Center, Frequently Used by Safety-Vulnerable Groups, to Inspect Evacuation System and Link District Disaster Headquarters in Real Time

Seongdong-gu, 2023 Disaster Response Safe Korea Training for Complex Disaster Preparedness

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Wono) conducted the '2023 Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill' on the 26th of this month to strengthen its capacity to respond to complex disasters.

The 'Disaster Response Safe Korea Drill' is an annual nationwide exercise conducted according to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Safe Korea Drill basic plan to minimize damage in the event of various disasters.

Through this drill, Seongdong-gu aims to thoroughly prepare for complex disaster situations such as earthquakes, collapses, fires, and mass crowd accidents at multi-use facilities frequently used by many residents. Seongdong-gu will check the cooperation system with related organizations such as the police and fire departments and jointly respond from emergency rescue to recovery and restoration.

In particular, this year's drill selected the Seoul Forest Complex Culture and Sports Center, which is used by many disaster safety vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, as the training site to check the evacuation system for vulnerable groups in the early stages of a disaster.

Also, unlike last year when discussion drills and field drills were conducted separately, this year the drill was conducted by linking the Seoul Forest Complex Culture and Sports Center site and the Seongdong-gu Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in real time to reproduce the response situation as it would occur in an actual disaster. The focus was on strengthening the crisis response capability of the Seongdong-gu Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, which responds in real time according to the complexly developing disaster patterns. Furthermore, to increase the utilization of the disaster safety communication network (PS-LTE) equipment, related organizations actively used the disaster safety communication network throughout the entire drill process.

About 350 people participated in this drill, including disaster management responsible agencies such as Seongdong-gu Office, Seongdong Fire Station, and Seongdong Police Station, as well as the Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group and the National Experience Group. In addition, linked drills such as disaster safety communication network communication training, multi-use facility evacuation drills, and safety experience education will be conducted over approximately two weeks.

Jeong Wono, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "The nature of disasters is becoming increasingly complex and developing in unpredictable directions," adding, "We will establish an organic cooperation system among disaster management agencies through realistic drills and thoroughly prepare for various disasters to create a safe Seongdong-gu 365 days a year."
