"Government and ruling party show no communication or change after one year"
Kim Sun-young, a member of the Seoul Yongsan District Council, criticized the government and the ruling party's response to the October 29 Itaewon disaster, announcing her departure from the People Power Party and joining the Democratic Party of Korea.
On the 27th, Councilor Kim held a press conference with Democratic Party officials at the National Assembly, saying, "As a mere district council member, I felt powerless in the face of a major disaster," and added, "When the party line opposing the October 29 Itaewon Disaster Special Act was established, I had no choice but to remain silent."

She criticized, "Over the past year, neither the president, the relevant ministers, the mayor of Seoul, the district's National Assembly member who was a cabinet member, the district mayor, nor any district council member from the People Power Party became a source of strength for the residents," and said, "No one took responsibility, and not a single person sincerely apologized to the bereaved families."
She explained her reason for leaving the party, saying, "I waited for the government and the party, and conservatism, to change, but even after a year, there was no open communication, change, or innovation, and there was neither fairness nor common sense."
Councilor Kim also targeted Park Hee-young, the mayor of Yongsan District, stating, "The detained mayor forced a petition, and I also participated in that loyalty competition," and criticized, "After being granted bail, the mayor has been focusing on self-politics by attending events rather than concentrating on district administration."
Furthermore, Councilor Kim joined the Democratic Party on the same day. She said, "I have come to believe that together with the Democratic Party, we can lead changes based on public sentiment."
