The Korea Cement Association announced on the 27th that it held the 69th ACPAC (Asia Cement Producers' Amity Club) at the Grand Ballroom of Signiel Hotel in Busan.

ACPAC began in July 1973 as the 1st Korea-Taiwan Cement Producers' Friendship Meeting. The current member countries include Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

This year at ACPAC, country reports were presented. Through this, member countries shared information on economic and construction industry trends, domestic cement demand, and import-export statistics. Joint issues such as greenhouse gas emission reduction were also adopted as agenda items to discuss response plans and development directions.

ACPAC is held annually, rotating among the seven countries. It was originally scheduled to be held in Korea in 2020 but was postponed to this year due to COVID-19. A Korea Cement Association official explained, “ACPAC has been held in Seoul, Gyeongju in Gyeongbuk, and Incheon, but this year it is being held in Busan for the first time to support the successful bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo.”

Lee Hyun-jun, chairman of the Korea Cement Association, said, “Starting with COVID-19, the global economic uncertainty caused by disruptions in the global supply chain due to the Russia-Ukraine war and the intensifying Middle East conflicts has brought great difficulties to the management environment before us. The remarkable achievements of Korea, which realized the 'Miracle on the Han River' long ago, involved an important role played by the cement industry.” He added, “I hope that this meeting, held for the first time in three years, will be the starting point for a new leap toward the ‘21st Century ACPAC Miracle’ among the Asian cement industry.”
