Held on the 28th at Banpo Hangang Park, Seoul
On the 28th, Namyang Dairy Products announced on the 27th that it will hold the ‘Purple Wave’ campaign to raise awareness of epilepsy at Banpo Hangang Park in Seoul.
Epilepsy is a brain disorder known to affect more than 65 million people worldwide and 370,000 patients in South Korea. Although it is a condition that anyone can develop, patients have faced social prejudice and discrimination due to temporary paralysis symptoms such as loss of consciousness and seizures, as well as the negative portrayal in the media.
Namyang Dairy Products, together with the Korea Epilepsy Association, planned the ‘Purple Wave’ event to improve awareness of epilepsy and support epilepsy patients who experience discrimination in daily life such as at schools and workplaces.
Purple Wave is a campaign where the general public can participate by solving quizzes prepared at five popup booths to acquire accurate information about epilepsy and signing petitions for legislative improvements to raise epilepsy awareness.
Citizens participating in the Purple Wave event can enjoy a busking performance by Fighting Gale and receive gifts including a Purple Wave reusable bag, keyring, and Namyang Dairy Products’ representative products.
A Namyang Dairy Products official stated, "Raising awareness of epilepsy requires the interest and participation of many citizens," adding, "We hope the Purple Wave event will serve as a connecting link to improve epilepsy awareness."
