Lee, the perpetrator of the 'Busan spinning kick' incident who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for brutally assaulting a woman on her way home with the intent to sexually assault her, received a reduced sentence in the appellate trial for a separate trespassing case compared to the original trial.
On October 27, the 1st Criminal Division of the Busan District Court overturned the original verdict that had imposed a fine of 1 million won on Lee for trespassing and instead sentenced him to a fine of 500,000 won in the appellate ruling.
The court explained that while it recognized Lee's guilt for trespassing, it decided to reduce the sentence, taking into account factors such as Lee having paid 500,000 won to the victim as a settlement.
Lee was brought to trial on charges of breaking into the home of his acquaintance, identified as A, in Busanjin-gu, Busan, at around 1:00 a.m. on March 12, 2022, by entering the password without permission. About two months later, at around 5:00 a.m. on May 22, 2022, Lee followed a woman in her 20s for over 10 minutes as she was returning home in Busanjin-gu, Busan, and then attempted to kill her by assaulting her in the lobby of her officetel. On September 21, 2023, the Supreme Court finalized his 20-year prison sentence for attempted rape and murder under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
While in custody, Lee reportedly made threats to retaliate against the victim, prompting correctional authorities to investigate and refer the case to the Busan District Prosecutors' Office, Western Branch, on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes. Correctional authorities also referred additional charges to the prosecution, alleging that Lee sent a threatening letter to his ex-girlfriend because she refused to visit him.
