This project has been initiated by Hanul Headquarters since 2019 to revitalize village communities and discover village enterprises. Among the 23 village community enterprises supported by Hanul Headquarters so far, two were selected as village enterprises by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and five were selected as preliminary village enterprises by Gyeongbuk Province, achieving notable results.

Among the preliminary village community enterprises selected through a document review in September, the final five teams selected through this competition will receive funding support.

The eight organizations participating in the competition learned how to operate community enterprises through expert consulting and education over two months, concretized their business models, and prepared for the competition.

The grand prize (funding of 30 million KRW) was awarded to ‘Maeo Cooperative,’ a local cafe and complex cultural space business. The gold prize (funding of 27 million KRW) went to ‘Maehwa Village Foreigners Group’ and ‘Purumi Workshop,’ while the silver prize (funding of 25 million KRW) was awarded to ‘Geumgang Pine Wild Vegetable Farming Association Corporation’ and ‘Galmeon-ri Pine Mushroom Harvesting Group,’ respectively.

Going forward, the five organizations plan to refine their business plans and challenge entry into the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s village enterprise program.

Kim Suhyun, CEO of Maeo Cooperative, which won the grand prize, expressed, “I am pleased to receive recognition for the time spent preparing the project, and I will further develop the business model aiming for entry into the village enterprise program.”

Head Lee Seyong stated, “Hanul Headquarters will continue to provide a foundation for the independence of village community enterprises, support the sustainable growth of local communities, and strive to contribute to the economy of Uljin.”
