Go Gi-dong, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, met with Kim In, Vice Chairman acting as the President of the Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association, and urged him to carry out his duties without any setbacks.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 27th, Vice Minister Go emphasized the need to strive for the stability of the Central Association's organization, 1,291 regional Geumgos, and markets, given the severe internal and external conditions of Saemaeul Geumgo.
Vice Minister Go requested that through the implementation of the Saemaeul Geumgo innovation plan to be announced next month, the entire Saemaeul Geumgo should be innovated and improved to restore public trust and fulfill its original function as a financial institution for ordinary citizens. He also ordered the establishment of service discipline to prevent any cases of election neutrality violations by the Central Association and Geumgo executives and employees ahead of the Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association presidential election.
Park Cha-hoon, President of the Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association, announced his intention to resign on the 11th. The resignation date stated in Park’s resignation letter is the 27th. Park is currently on trial for charges including violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (such as bribery).
Following Park’s announcement of his resignation, the Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association will hold a by-election for the presidency. This by-election will be the first direct election where the chairpersons of 1,291 Saemaeul Geumgos will vote directly. A Ministry of the Interior and Safety official said, "We plan to promptly proceed with related procedures such as finalizing the schedule in consultation with the election management committee to ensure that a new Central Association president can be elected this year."
