The 'glass ceiling' for female employment within the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and its affiliated organizations remains unchanged.
According to data submitted by MOLIT on the 27th to Cho Oh-seop, a member of the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, as of the end of last month, the number of men and women at grade 3 or higher (including executives) was 85 men and 4 women, with the female ratio standing at only 4.49%.
Additionally, an analysis of the gender ratio of executives and managers across 28 MOLIT-affiliated institutions showed that out of 13,121 people, women accounted for only 15.84% (2,079 individuals).
Looking at each institution, eight affiliated organizations including the Korea National Railway Corporation, Housing Management Corporation, and Jeju Free International City Development Center had zero female executives, and 16 institutions had only 1 to 2 female executives.
According to the analysis report on the status of male and female workers released last year by the Ministry of Employment and Labor's 'Active Employment Improvement Measures (AA),' the proportion of female managers increased by 0.45 percentage points from 21.30% the previous year to 21.75%. However, the proportion of female executives and managers in MOLIT and its affiliated organizations falls significantly short of this.
Rep. Cho stated, "The actual situation of female personnel in MOLIT and its affiliated organizations is evidence that work-family balance is not being well maintained," adding, "Since gender imbalance in the legislative body can potentially lead to a lack of gender sensitivity in policies, MOLIT needs to establish measures to address this issue."
