Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon lamented that the Blue House is considering the memorial ceremony for the October 29 tragedy as a political rally, calling the political exploitation of the national grief over the disaster an "extension of the tragedy."
On the 26th, after visiting the memorial altar for the victims of the October 29 tragedy, Governor Kim posted on his social media, "I have not forgotten for a year how difficult and precious it is to spend an ordinary day, return home, and have dinner with my family."
He continued, "On October 29 last year, our friends, younger siblings, and colleagues did not return home," adding, "Ahead of the first anniversary of the tragedy, I visited the memorial altar again last night, and the memories and pain of that day still remained there."
However, Governor Kim said, "The Blue House reportedly called the first anniversary memorial ceremony of the October 29 tragedy a political rally," adding, "This is the part that the bereaved families I met are most angry about."
Furthermore, he criticized, "The tragedy did not end that day," and "The political exploitation of the national grief is also an extension of the tragedy."
Governor Kim stated, "Gyeonggi Province has prepared an online memorial space," urging, "We must not forget, remember, and record every moment. Please gather the power of memory to prevent another tragedy."
