"Check Holidays Before Visiting Large Marts"…Some Areas in Seoul Closed on the 5th Next Month and Open on the 12th

Change in Mandatory Holidays for Large Mart Chains Aligned with Korea Sale Festa

The mandatory holiday for some large supermarkets in Seoul will be changed to support the successful hosting of the '2023 Korea Sale Festa.'


The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 27th that the mandatory closure day for large supermarkets located in eight districts of Seoul?Seocho, Dongdaemun, Jungnang, Jongno, Seongdong, Mapo, Gangseo, and Yeongdeungpo?will be temporarily changed from the 12th to the 5th of next month.


Accordingly, large supermarkets such as Homeplus, E-Mart, Lotte Mart, and Costco, as well as quasi-large stores including Lotte Super, E-Mart Everyday, Homeplus Express, No Brand, GS The Fresh, and Kim's Club in these eight districts, will be closed on November 5th but will operate normally on November 12th, during the Korea Sale Festa period.


An official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy stated, "Since the national representative shopping festival, the 2023 Korea Sale Festa, will be held from November 11 to 30, the mandatory holiday has been temporarily changed so that large supermarkets can operate normally during this period. Consumers residing in the affected districts are expected to enjoy greater discount benefits from the Korea Sale Festa by visiting stores on November 12."


The Korea Sale Festa is a consumer promotion event that has been carried out since 2016 to revitalize the domestic economy through increased consumption. This year as well, distribution and manufacturing companies are preparing various discount and promotional events.
