Samsung Electronics' Park Yong-in: "Exynos 2400 GPU Performance Superior to Competitors"

Park Yong-in, President of Samsung Electronics System LSI Division
Attends Semiconductor Exhibition on 26th as Keynote Speaker
Expresses Confidence in Next-Generation 'Exynos 2400'

Park Yong-in, President of Samsung Electronics' System LSI Division, showcased graphic footage implemented with the company's Exynos 2400 and described it as "an extremely difficult technology that developers find astonishing." He added, "Next year, this feature will be included in certain phones."

On the afternoon of the 26th, Park attended the keynote speech at 'Semiconductor Exhibition (SEDEX) 2023' held at COEX in Seoul and made these remarks. Some audience members smiled at Park's comments. They seemed to be aware that the "certain phone" could be Samsung Electronics' next Galaxy S series, showing keen interest in his statement.

Exynos is Samsung Electronics' mobile application processor (AP) brand. The mobile AP serves as the brain of a smartphone, and Samsung unveiled the Exynos 2400 at the 'Samsung System LSI Tech Day 2023' event held this month in Silicon Valley, USA. Industry insiders expect Samsung to equip the Exynos 2400 in the Galaxy S24 series, which is set to be launched early next year.

Park also expressed confidence about the Exynos 2400 during a meeting with reporters that day. He said, "I believe the Exynos 2400 will perform well because it has a graphics processing unit (GPU) performance superior to competitors." He added, "I hope both the Galaxy S24 series and Exynos do well."

The Exynos 2400 is a next-generation mobile AP featuring the Xclipse 940 GPU based on AMD's latest architecture (RDNA3). Compared to its predecessor (Exynos 2200), its central processing unit (CPU) performance is 1.7 times higher, and its AI performance is 14.7 times greater. It supports advanced graphics technology for users who enjoy high-performance gaming.

Park mentioned that the next Exynos model might adopt the next-generation transistor technology called 'Gate-All-Around (GAA).' When asked by reporters whether they are preparing for a 3-nanometer or smaller process, he replied, "We are doing well."

In his keynote speech, he emphasized that the era of on-device AI, where generative AI can be enjoyed on handheld devices, is approaching. He also explained, "Our ultimate goal is to provide generative AI in our hands, available anytime." He pointed out that recently, automobile companies are focusing on generative AI as a key means to differentiate their businesses, and that many related discussions are taking place.

He expressed his ambition, saying, "Creating semiconductor solutions that resemble humans is our response to the challenges of our time," and added, "Through the technology and capabilities we possess, we will create semiconductors that benefit the world and save lives."
