Jeonnam Agricultural, Fishery, and Livestock Products Captivate the Hearts of Seoul Citizens

'Direct Market Festival' in front of Seoul City Hall attracts 150,000 visitors over 3 days

94 companies, 495 items up to 30% discount... Sales reach 400 million KRW

Agricultural, fishery, and livestock products from Jeonnam region have captured the hearts of Seoul citizens.


Jeonnam Province announced on the 26th that 150,000 people visited over three days and sales reached 400 million KRW at the ‘2023 Jeollanam-do Direct Transaction Market Festival’ held at the lawn square in front of Seoul City Hall.

At this event, 94 excellent agricultural, livestock, and fishery product companies producing and processing in Jeonnam sold 495 items at up to 30% discounted prices.


Including about 70,000 visitors on the opening day, a total of 150,000 people visited Seoul Plaza over three days. In addition, sales reached 400 million KRW, with most items selling out completely.


Sixty companies participated in agricultural and livestock products, generating sales of 210 million KRW. With the kimchi-making season underway, instant kimchi, sauces, seasonal fruits, and grains were very popular.


Thirty-four companies participated in fishery products, achieving sales of 189 million KRW. Processed seaweed products such as chamgulbi (dried yellow corvina), sun-dried salt, salted seafood, and gopchang gim (seaweed with intestines) played a key role in sales.


To promote the excellence of Namdo kimchi, a pre-registration event was held featuring Choi Sumi, a Haenam kimchi master, along with the Namdo Kimjang Competition, providing another attraction for participants and foreign visitors at Seoul Plaza.


Jukhyangdoga, which won the grand prize at the Namdo Our Liquor Competition in July, along with Haechang Brewery, Namdo Takju, Byeongyeong Brewery, and Baegun Juga’s liquors, which won the highest awards, were exhibited and sold under the theme ‘Capturing Namdo Culture in a Glass of Liquor,’ highlighting the excellence of Namdo liquors.


Kang Seong-il, Director of Agricultural Food Distribution at Jeonnam Province, said, “We organized the market with high-quality agricultural, fishery, and livestock products created by the clean sea, vast fields, fresh air and water, and the dedication of farmers and fishermen in Jeonnam.” He added, “Jeonnam, the largest production area of excellent agricultural, fishery, and livestock products including eco-friendly agricultural products, will expand the ‘Sangsaeng Sanghoe’ store items and major event direct transaction markets through collaboration with Seoul, the largest consumption area.”
