A man in his 20s stalked again during probation... Prosecutors request electronic anklet attachment

A man in his 20s who was sentenced to a suspended prison term for stalking was arrested and brought to trial again after committing the same crime.

The Women and Children Crime Investigation Division of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Jang Il-hee) announced on the 26th that it has arrested and indicted a man in his 20s, identified as A, on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, and has requested an order to attach an electronic monitoring device (electronic anklet).

A is accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend B in September by sending her over 380 text messages and visiting her home. It was also investigated that even while detained in a detention center after being sent to the prosecution in custody for this case, he sent several letters to B.

A had previously been prosecuted in November last year for stalking another victim and was sentenced to a suspended prison term when he committed these crimes.

Meanwhile, according to the amendment to the Act on the Attachment of Electronic Devices, which came into effect on the 12th, stalking crimes are now subject to electronic monitoring device attachment orders depending on the risk of reoffending.

A prosecution official stated, "We judged that A poses a high risk of committing stalking crimes again, so we requested both an electronic monitoring device attachment order and a probation order," adding, "We will actively request electronic monitoring device attachment orders for stalkers who may harm victims or have a high risk of reoffending in the future."
