Jindo-gun, the Optimal Location for Renewable Energy, Holds Offshore Wind Power Developers Meeting

Status of Offshore Wind Power Promotion, Sharing Cooperation Plans, and Establishing a Communication Platform

Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 25th that it held a meeting with offshore wind power companies at the county office conference room.

The meeting was attended by 35 related parties, including licensed companies and instrument installation companies, to explore cooperation plans in the sustainable offshore wind power sector amid the growing need for renewable energy.

Currently, centered on Europe and the United States, the need to transition to renewable energy is gradually increasing due to global warming and abnormal climate conditions. Global companies are promoting RE100, aiming to supply 100% of their fuel from renewable energy by 2050.

Jindo-gun is attracting attention as an optimal site for renewable energy such as wind power, solar power, and tidal energy, with an excellent business feasibility due to offshore wind speeds of 7.5 m/s.

Accordingly, Jindo-gun plans to mobilize all administrative power to ensure coexistence between offshore wind power and fisheries and mutual prosperity with local residents through the formation of an offshore wind power company council.

In particular, through the power company council, continuous efforts will be made to jointly respond to local acceptance, conduct offshore traffic safety inspections, and pre-establish the ‘KEPCO joint connection facility’ to address insufficient power connections.

County Governor Kim Hee-su said, “The formation of the offshore wind power company council is essential to seek mutual cooperation methods among power companies and regional win-win plans,” adding, “As the need to respond to the climate crisis, achieve carbon neutrality, and expand renewable energy gradually increases, I hope local residents will unite their efforts for offshore wind power development that allows for mutual prosperity.”
