Participation in the '2023 International Public Safety Industry Expo'
At the '2023 International Public Safety Industry Expo' held on the 19th, officials from the National Police Agency are receiving an explanation about the two-way smart traffic enforcement equipment from representatives of Afro Systems.
Afro Systems, which developed rear enforcement equipment, announced on the 25th that it unveiled two-way traffic enforcement equipment at the '2023 International Public Safety Industry Expo' held on the 19th at Songdo Convensia in Incheon.
Afro Systems is a specialized company in unmanned traffic enforcement equipment established in 2015. It has registered signal speed enforcement equipment and illegal parking enforcement equipment as excellent procurement products and has played a role in improving traffic safety environments in school zones following the implementation of the Min-sik Act. Since this year, it has developed rear license plate enforcement equipment, registered it as an excellent procurement product, and supplied it to the market.
The rear enforcement equipment developed through a pilot project commissioned by the National Police Agency last year was installed in two locations in the southern Gyeonggi region, including Jungnang-gu in Seoul, Suwon-si, and Hwaseong-si, and was pilot-operated until the end of March this year. Full-scale enforcement began in April. According to the National Police Agency, from the start of operation on April 1st until the end of last month, 12,025 cases of speeding and signal violations were detected through the rear enforcement equipment. Among these, 8,425 cases involved four-wheeled vehicles (3,708 speeding, 4,717 signal violations), and 3,600 cases involved two-wheeled vehicles (3,289 speeding, 371 signal violations).
The rear enforcement equipment was originally installed to enforce traffic violations by two-wheeled vehicles, but it was found that the number of four-wheeled vehicle violations was more than twice that of two-wheeled vehicles. This is analyzed to be because drivers often accelerate immediately after passing the camera, mistaking the rear enforcement equipment for a general front enforcement device, leading to detection. The police view the effect of the rear enforcement cameras positively and plan to expand to 199 units by the end of this year.
At this industry expo, Afro Systems attracted attention from related authorities and the industry by unveiling not only existing signal speed enforcement equipment but also rear license plate enforcement equipment, illegal parking enforcement equipment, and two-way smart traffic enforcement equipment. A National Police Agency official said, "We expect significant effects in accident prevention by upgrading the existing front enforcement equipment installed on two-lane roads to enforce both front and rear directions."
Shim Jae-hyung, CEO of Afro Systems, stated, "We will continue to devote ourselves to research and development to contribute to establishing a safe road traffic culture and building a pedestrian-centered next-generation intelligent transportation system (C-ITS)."
