The Health Center of Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk (Governor Oh Do-chang) conducted free eye examinations for about 100 preschool children on the 24th.
This examination, in collaboration with the Korea Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness, was carried out to detect eye diseases early in children from medically underserved areas and to support treatment in order to prevent blindness and visual impairment.
The examination targeted children aged 5 to 7, with applicants recruited through local daycare centers and kindergartens. A pediatric ophthalmologist conducted detailed examinations including vision tests and automated refraction tests.
As a result of this examination, children from low-income families who require eye surgery or corrective glasses will receive support for surgery and glasses costs. Additionally, children needing occlusion therapy due to amblyopia will be provided with occlusion patches, with efforts to ensure follow-up care.
Jang Yeo-jin, head of the Health Center, stated, “Children often cannot express problems with their vision well, so examinations for healthy visual development are important,” adding, “We will strive to protect children’s precious eyesight through early detection and treatment via these examinations.”
