Lake Scenery Dyed in Fantastic Light, Gift to Residents Until Late February Next Year
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will hold the "Autumn and Winter of the Lake and Luminarie Festival (hereinafter Luminarie Festival)" at Seokchon Lake from October 27 to the end of February next year.
Under the theme "Hearts Connected by Light," the festival offers residents a fantastic feast of light in the deepening autumn.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, explained the background, saying, “Even in autumn and winter when cultural and artistic events decrease, we have prepared the Luminarie since last year so that residents and visitors can feel the warm scent of culture when they come to Songpa-gu.”
The ‘luminarie’ is a festival that creates architectural or sculptural works using electric bulbs. The district held the Luminarie event for the first time on October 28 last year. Due to positive responses from visitors, the event was extended by one month beyond the original plan and continued until February 28 this year.
This year, it has become bigger and more splendid than last year.
At the entrance of the East Lake of Seokchon Lake, a large luminarie, the symbolic sculpture of the festival, welcomes visitors at three times the size. Visitors can experience the brilliant light emitted by 20,000 bulbs.
In particular, at the center of the East Lake of Seokchon Lake, a snake-shaped sculpture symbolizing the world-renowned jewelry brand ‘Bvlgari’ is exhibited. The 18-meter-high ‘SERPENTI LIGHT’ is modeled after the Bvlgari Serpenti necklace. Serpenti means snake in Italian.
This sculpture, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Bvlgari Serpenti collection, has traveled through world cities such as Singapore, Bangkok, and London before arriving at Seokchon Lake. Featuring 130 gold decorations and 150,000 LED lights, it creates a dreamy atmosphere and is expected to attract visitors.
Additionally, various light sculptures and photo zones throughout Seokchon Lake provide fun and sights. These include ▲ a luminarie tunnel filled with dense lights ▲ Haha Hoho media art themed on autumn and winter ▲ a 70-meter firefly light path created by laser lights ▲ and an Instagram photo zone that stores memories in shimmering lights.
The landscape lighting and photo zones are available until February 29 next year, and the Serpenti Light can be seen until January 1 next year.
From October 27 to 29, diverse cultural events and experiences are also prepared. On the opening day, after a classical performance featuring a string quartet and vocalists, a lighting performance marking the start of the festival will take place. Representatives of Songpa-gu residents, including youth and foreigners, will participate. Following this, fireworks that will beautifully decorate the night sky and a congratulatory performance by musical actor Choi Jung-won will be held.
On the 28th and 29th, busking by local young artists, bubble shows for the whole family, mime magic, and experience booths supported by the Songpa Jamsil Tourism Special Zone Council offering LED canvas and glow-in-the-dark J-Bits making will be available. Also, during the festival period, Lotte Corporation will produce a media facade themed on ‘light’ on the front of Lotte Tower.
The district is mobilizing about 120 professionals and volunteers to ensure safety.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “This autumn and winter, colorful light stories await visitors at Seokchon Lake,” and added, “We hope many people come to soothe their tired hearts from daily life and take home joyful memories.”
