Seongbuk-gu Samseon-dong Jangsu Village Fairy Has Descended...

A beautiful scene of a fairy descending unfolded in Jangsu Village, Samseon-dong, Seongbuk-gu, the most beautiful section of the Hanyangdoseong and known as the "Santorini of Seoul."

This took place on the 22nd through the 10th Samseon-dong Fairy Festival held at Hanyangdoseong (Jangsu Village) and Seongbukcheon Fountain Square.

The Samseon-dong Fairy Festival is a restored festival based on the legend behind the place name, where three fairies who descended from the sky spent joyful times with three jade maidens.

The festival was organized by the "Samseon-dong Fairy Festival Promotion Committee," composed of residents, and sponsored by Hansung University, MG Samseon Saemaeul Geumgo, Donam Market Merchants Association, and Seongbukcheon Merchants Association. A resident active as a festival promotion committee member said, "As residents, merchants, and the local university work together to continue the festival using the local legend, affection for Samseon-dong grows stronger. It has become known as a unique and beautiful festival held in the city center, increasing the number of visitors, which makes us very proud."

The highlight of the Samseon-dong Fairy Festival is the scene of the fairies descending against the backdrop of Jangsu Village, considered the most beautiful section of Hanyangdoseong. The three fairies welcomed the three immortals and their attendants, starting the festival in earnest as they departed from Hanyangdoseong. The fairies are selected from Hansung University students, and since the festival attracts photographers nationwide, competition for this unique experience that leaves beautiful memories is fierce.

The street parade, which continued from Hanyangdoseong (Jangsu Village) to Donam Market and Samseongyo Fountain Square, was participated in by residents, Hansung University students, and volunteers. With Samulnori and the municipal wind orchestra leading the procession with festival flags, various streets transformed into performance venues. The parade concluded at Seongbukcheon Fountain Square.

Comedian Kim In-seok hosted the residents' harmony event. Following the opening ceremony, stages featuring resident singing contests, community program performances, congratulatory performances, and prize drawings brought together multiple generations. With about 1,000 participants and around 10,000 visitors enjoying the festival, Seongbuk-gu conducted a prior safety inspection of the site. Approximately 150 safety personnel composed of professional and self-governing organizations were deployed. The Seongbuk-gu Public Health Center also stood by with an ambulance in case of emergencies.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, "The Samseon-dong Fairy Festival is one of Seongbuk-gu’s representative festivals. Residents themselves prepare the festival using the local heritage, and with cooperation from the local university, it has developed into an event that fosters appreciation for our history and culture among both Koreans and foreigners." He added, "This autumn, I hope families and couples enjoy the beautiful Samseon-dong Fairy Festival, which is hard to experience anywhere else in the country, and create wonderful memories."
