Increased Usage Rate↑·Expected Enhancement of Citizen Convenience
From the 29th, the flight schedules for the Jeju and Gimpo routes at Pohang Gyeongju Airport will be adjusted.
The flight departing from Pohang Gyeongju Airport to Jeju will change from the current 11:10 AM to 10:25 AM, and the flight returning from Jeju to Pohang Gyeongju Airport will be adjusted from 4:35 PM to 7:20 PM.
Jeju Airport is a slot-saturated airport, meaning the aircraft SLOT (the allocated time for aircraft to take off and land at the airport) is fully booked. Especially due to the nature of the tourist destination, there is high demand to arrive in Jeju in the morning and return late in the afternoon, making securing prime time flight slots even more competitive.
The boarding rate for the Jeju route at Pohang Gyeongju Airport has been increasing every year (49% in 2021, 65% in 2022, and currently 75% in 2023), but it is still about 10 to 15% lower compared to the Jeju routes of other airports operated by the airlines. It is expected that the adjustment of flight times will not only improve convenience for Pohang citizens but also increase the boarding rate.
Flight times between Gimpo Airport and Pohang Gyeongju Airport will also be adjusted.
The flight from Gimpo Airport to Pohang Gyeongju Airport will change from 9:35 AM to 8:50 AM, and the flight from Pohang Gyeongju Airport to Gimpo Airport will be adjusted from 6:20 PM to 9:05 PM.
The Gimpo route currently has a boarding rate of around 50%, so increasing the number of passengers is necessary. This adjustment considers the connectivity between air and ferry services for day-trip tourists visiting the Pohang-Gyeongju area and tourists taking the Pohang-Ulleung cruise (departing from Sadong Port, Ulleung at 12:30 PM and arriving at Yeongilman Port, Pohang at 7:00 PM).
The revised schedule will be maintained until March 30 of next year.
