The Goyang Ilsan Technovalley, a leading project in the large-scale development of northern Gyeonggi Province, will break ground on the 26th.
The Goyang Ilsan Technovalley is a joint project by Gyeonggi Province, Goyang City, Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH), and Goyang Urban Management Corporation, covering an area of 872,000㎡ (approximately 260,000 pyeong) in Daehwa-dong, Ilsanseo-gu, Goyang City. With a project cost of 850 billion KRW, it aims to establish a national advanced strategic industry base to attract innovative companies in the bio-medical, media-content, and advanced manufacturing sectors. Land supply and sales are scheduled for the end of 2024, with completion expected in 2026.
In particular, Goyang City is home to six large general hospitals including the National Cancer Center, Ilsan Hospital, Dongguk University Hospital, Myongji Hospital, Ilsan Paik Hospital, and Ilsan CHA Hospital, providing excellent infrastructure and abundant human resources centered on precision medical fields, pharmaceuticals, and hospitals. The city plans to leverage these strengths to pursue designation as a national advanced strategic industrial complex in the bio sector.
Earlier in May, Gyeonggi Province proposed to the government that the bio sector also be designated as a national advanced strategic industry. In response, the National Advanced Strategic Industry Committee newly added the bio industry to the existing semiconductor, display, and secondary battery sectors as national advanced strategic industries, opening the way to establish a foundation for fostering and attracting investment in the Goyang Ilsan Technovalley as a national advanced strategic industry.
If the Goyang Ilsan Technovalley is designated as a national advanced strategic industry bio-specialized complex, industrial facility sites can be supplied at cost through private contracts, and various tax benefits will be provided, enhancing competitiveness in attracting excellent leading companies.
Oh Se-hyun, Director of Urban Policy at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will spare no comprehensive support to enable the Goyang Ilsan Technovalley to rapidly emerge as a global innovation cluster with overwhelming manufacturing capabilities."
Meanwhile, the groundbreaking ceremony on this day will be attended by about 200 stakeholders including Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon, members of the National Assembly, Goyang Mayor Lee Dong-hwan, city and provincial council members, the president of Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation, Goyang Urban Management Corporation officials, and residents.
