On the 19th, Samsung held a memorial concert for the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee's 3rd anniversary at the Samsung Electronics Human Resources Development Center Concert Hall in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

About 1,000 people attended the concert, including Chairman Lee Jae-yong, former Leeum Museum Director Hong Ra-hee, Samsung Welfare Foundation Chairperson Lee Seo-hyun, Samsung executives and employees, nearby residents, and representatives of partner companies, to pay tribute to the late chairman. When the memorial video of the late chairman was shown, Chairman Lee and former Director Hong’s eyes welled up with tears, and Chairperson Lee wiped away her flowing tears.

The concert featured world-renowned pianist Cho Seong-jin, who won this year’s Samsung Ho-Am Prize in the Arts category, as well as emerging performers such as violinist Park Soo-ye, violist Lee Hae-soo, cellists Han Jae-min and Lee Won-hae, and pianist Park Jae-hong.

The late Chairman Lee Kun-hee, who had a special affection for culture and the arts, was deeply interested in improving the quality of life of the people through cultural promotion and emphasized that companies should also take an interest in cultural development and expand their roles.

In fact, in his essay "Let’s Think a Little and Look at the World," Chairman Lee predicted that the importance of "cultural competitiveness" would increase in the future and stressed, "Ahead of the era of cultural competition, companies must take the lead in improving cultural infrastructure."

Following his will to foster "cultural infrastructure," Samsung has actively carried out cultural and artistic support activities. It is regarded as having expanded its "talent first" management philosophy beyond business to include support for culture and the arts.

From the early days of his tenure, Samsung selected talented artists, supported overseas training, and sponsored the overseas activities of Korean artists such as Baek Geon-woo, Nam June Paik, and Lee Ufan, contributing to cultural development through "talent cultivation."

Since 1997, Samsung has also operated the "Samsung Music Fellowship" program, which loans world-class musical instruments free of charge. The Samsung Ho-Am Prize in the Arts is awarded to individuals who have contributed to the development of culture and the arts through outstanding achievements in the fields of art and literature. In addition, Samsung continues to provide necessary support to lay the foundation for the development of Korean classical music through projects such as the "Piano Tuner Training Program."
