Itaewon Tragedy Bereaved Families Deliver Invitation Asking President Yoon to Attend 1st Anniversary Memorial Ceremony

On the morning of the 18th, in front of the Presidential Office in Yongsan, Seoul, members of the 10.29 Itaewon Disaster Bereaved Families Association and the 10.29 Itaewon Disaster Citizens' Countermeasures Meeting handed over an appeal letter from the bereaved families and an invitation to the first anniversary citizen memorial event to a Presidential Office official after concluding a press conference on the first anniversary of the disaster. The bereaved families of the Itaewon disaster have requested President Yoon Suk-yeol to attend the first anniversary citizen memorial event for the disaster.

On the morning of the 18th, the 10·29 Itaewon Disaster Bereaved Families Association and the Citizens' Countermeasures Committee held a press conference in front of the Yongsan Presidential Office and stated, "Although it has been almost a year since the disaster, the bereaved families have never once been met with a word of comfort or a call for the enactment of a special law to investigate the Itaewon disaster, but we respectfully invite President Yoon to the Itaewon Disaster 1st Anniversary Citizen Memorial Event to be held on the 29th." They added, "If the state cannot host a memorial ceremony, we ask that you come to the citizen memorial event to console the bereaved families and lay a single flower in honor of the victims."

They also urged, "Please cooperate with the National Assembly and the ruling party to promptly enact the Itaewon Disaster Special Act so that the grief held in the hearts of the bereaved families can be eased even a little."

After the press conference, they handed an invitation to an administrative officer of the Office of Civil Society Affairs. The bereaved families plan to hold a citizen memorial event to honor the victims on the 29th of this month, the first anniversary of the disaster, at Sejong-daero in front of Seoul Plaza.
