Actor Song Kang-ho opened the 20th Hong Kong Asian Film Festival.
Song Kang-ho attended the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival on the 13th and a masterclass on the 14th, ahead of the Hong Kong release of the film Geomi Jip (directed by Kim Ji-woon) on the 26th of this month.
At the opening ceremony of the 20th Hong Kong Asian Film Festival held at Elements in Hong Kong on the 13th, Song Kang-ho said, "I could feel the passion and affection of the Hong Kong audience for films." Around 750 viewers gathered for the stage greeting of Geomi Jip held before and after the opening ceremony that day.
The masterclass with Song Kang-ho held on the 14th at Hong Kong Baptist University was sold out with about 1,000 seats. Hong Kong’s leading actors Chung Suk-ying and Lim Ka-han participated as host and guest, respectively.
On this day, Song Kang-ho said, "This is my very first masterclass in nearly 30 years of acting, and I am holding it in Hong Kong." He added, "Hong Kong is a city of cinema that planted the dream of film in me and many film fans." He further expressed, "I hope Hong Kong cinema continues to prosper."
Regarding Geomi Jip, he introduced it as "a film about the passion for movies on Korean film sets 50 years ago and the value of cinema amid the pain the world has endured during the pandemic." He continued, "Broadly speaking, it is also a tribute to all people who live their lives diligently."
This year’s Hong Kong Asian Film Festival will hold a special exhibition featuring director Kim Ji-woon and Song Kang-ho from the 28th of this month to the 7th of next month. The films Quiet Family (1998), Public Enemy (2000), The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008), and The Age of Shadows (2016), along with the opening film Geomi Jip, will be screened.
