Kim Jae-won "Lee Jun-seok to run in Daegu... will follow Hong Joon-pyo model"

Kim Jae-won, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, predicted on the 17th in an interview with KBS1 Radio's 'Joo Jin-woo Live' that former People Power Party leader Lee Jun-seok would follow the 'Hong Jun-pyo model' by running as an independent candidate in Daegu.

Kim Jae-won said, "He has been frequently going to Daegu as an independent candidate. He might enter the race by targeting the person considered the weakest in Daegu, who is expected to receive the party nomination in the future, attacking that the nomination was made by the Yoon core faction and that it was a wrong nomination. That’s how he could jump in," he predicted.

Kim Jae-won added, "Former leader Lee Jun-seok had repeatedly declared that he would not leave the party until now, but after watching his interview yesterday, he said he would decide his future course later. This shows a change in his thinking. I am sensing that his thoughts are gradually shifting," he said.

Previously, Hong Jun-pyo, mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City, ran as an independent candidate in the Daegu Suseong-gu constituency in the 21st general election in 2020 after failing to receive the party nomination, and was elected as a member of the National Assembly. After being elected, he went through the process of rejoining the party and was elected as mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City as a member of the People Power Party.

Kim Jae-won analyzed, "Former leader Lee Jun-seok had said in the past to the media that he would follow the Hong Jun-pyo model," adding, "I think he is currently drawing various plans with that strategy in mind."

Meanwhile, regarding the clash between People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo and former leader Lee Jun-seok, Kim Jae-won said, "There is one thing I want to say to lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo: do not see former leader Lee Jun-seok as a spoiled child."

Kim Jae-won said, "Lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo is very simple, gentle, and in a way a kind person, but Lee Jun-seok is a machine-like person, a machine specialized in politics. However, since Ahn sees him as a spoiled child in various ways, the confrontation is not going well," he explained.
