“$100,000 Cosmetics Export Contract, Socks Selling Like Hotcakes”
The Dobong-gu Overseas Market Development Team proved the excellence of local products at the LA Korean Festival.
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) participated in the LA Korean Festival held in Los Angeles (LA) from October 12 to 15 with the Dobong-gu Overseas Market Development Team, composed of small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners from the region.
The LA Korean Festival is the largest representative festival in Southern California, attracting over 300,000 visitors. This year’s festival, themed “A Great Challenge Toward a New 50 Years,” was held around Seoul International Park in Koreatown, LA, showcasing various aspects of Korea including politics, economy, and culture.
Dobong-gu, participating in this year’s LA Korean Festival, promoted the charm of Dobong-gu as a city where culture and economy harmoniously coexist to Koreans living abroad and foreigners.
The appeal of Dobong-gu resonated even in LA. The cosmetics products from local company YUMUS R&D sold out on the first day of the festival, and they signed an export contract worth $100,000 (approximately 130 million KRW) with the Southern California Korean Nurses Association. Additionally, the uniquely designed and high-quality socks from the local sock manufacturing association, Dobong Sock Manufacturing Federation, and Mihai Socks received enthusiastic responses from visitors and sold like hotcakes from the first day.
Positive reviews continued at the VIP buyer invitation meeting. The products attracted high interest from buyers and supervisors of major U.S. distributors, and consultations on products were conducted.
Furthermore, Mayor Oh Eon-seok, as the head of the Dobong-gu Overseas Market Development Team, supported the opening of U.S. market channels for local products. Mayor Oh held a one-on-one meeting with Kim Bong-hyun, president of the LA Korean Chamber of Commerce, exchanging opinions on various directions to consider for the entry of Dobong-gu’s main products, socks and cosmetics, into the U.S. market, and actively requested cooperation on support measures from the LA Korean Chamber of Commerce for Dobong-gu companies.
In response, President Kim Bong-hyun gave a big round of applause for Mayor Oh Eon-seok’s proactive efforts on the ground to revitalize Dobong-gu’s local economy and presented a plaque of appreciation as a wish for Dobong-gu to expand beyond Korea to the world.
Mayor Oh Eon-seok of Dobong-gu said, “The record-breaking achievements of the Overseas Market Development Team, conducted for the first time this year, showed a new direction for the development of Dobong-gu’s local economy,” adding, “We will spare no effort to provide various support so that Dobong-gu’s small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners can thrive not only in Dobong-gu but worldwide.”
