On the evening of the 16th, the Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit and Dongdaemun Police Station inspected crime-prone areas around university districts
Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the evening of the 16th that a joint patrol activity involving civilians, government, and police was conducted in crime-vulnerable areas around university districts such as Kyung Hee University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
This joint patrol is the third following those on September 25 and October 5, initiated to alleviate residents' anxiety caused by recent indiscriminate crimes targeting unspecified individuals and to prevent serious crimes.
The patrol was carried out jointly with the Dongdaemun-gu Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit (Union Captain Choi Gyu-ho), Dongdaemun Police Station, and included about 20 participants such as Dongdaemun District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung, Seoul City Council member Shim Mi-kyung, and volunteer crime prevention unit members from Hoegi-dong (Captain Joo Soo-han), Imun 1-dong (Captain Choi Gyu-ho), Imun 2-dong (Captain Kim Tae-chang), and Jangan 2-dong (Captain Yoon Shin-heon). They patrolled on foot various university district areas including Hoegi Station, Kyung Hee University Food Alley, Igyeong Market, and Hwayang Station, ensuring the safety of residents. ‘Kan,’ the volunteer crime prevention dog from Imun 1-dong, also accompanied the patrol, attracting the attention of residents.
The district plans to monitor four designated crime-vulnerable areas a total of four times from September to November. On September 25, patrols were conducted around Cheongnyangni Station and Bapper area, and on October 5, patrols covered residential areas such as Jangan Neighborhood Park and entertainment districts like Janghanpyeong Station. In November, patrols will cover areas such as Baebongsan and Jangandong Cherry Blossom Road to ensure residents' safety.
Dongdaemun District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung stated, “I ask the volunteer crime prevention units and police to continuously patrol areas around universities and other places so that residents, including young people living alone, are not exposed to crime in their daily lives.” He added, “We will cooperate with related organizations to establish measures to prevent indiscriminate crimes and do our best to create a safe Dongdaemun-gu.”
