Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) under which Gwangjin Information Library operates, received the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award in the 2023 Library Cooperation Merit Organization category at the 78th anniversary ceremony of the National Library of Korea held on the 13th.
The 'Library Cooperation Merit' category is awarded to organizations and individuals who have contributed to establishing a sustainable cooperation foundation centered on libraries.
Gwangjin-gu was the first autonomous district to enact the Seoul Metropolitan Government Gwangjin-gu Ordinance to Support Knowledge and Information Vulnerable Groups in 2021. To this end, Gwangjin Information Library has promoted ▲ research on developing library services for knowledge and information vulnerable groups ▲ formation of local councils ▲ digital education prioritizing vulnerable groups, and digital utilization education for elderly-to-elderly care, strengthening services through continuous cooperation with related organizations.
As a result, it received high evaluation for contributing to enabling all citizens to easily access information and enjoy culture, earning the honor of receiving the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award after 12 years, following the National Library Director's Award in 2011.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Gwangjin Information Library offers many programs that various groups can use without burden,” and added, “We will do our best to improve services so that it can develop as a community-centered library.”
