Salady, a salad franchise aiming for healthy fast food, received the Minister of Environment Commendation at the '2023 Green Technology Promotion and Consumption Activation Awards Ceremony.'
Hosted by the Ministry of Environment and organized by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute, the ceremony took place on the 12th at 2 PM in Conference Halls E5 and 6 at COEX, Samseong-dong. This annual event, held since 2008, honors individuals, companies, and organizations that have contributed to national and social development, including the spread of low-carbon lifestyle practices.
The awards for green technology promotion and consumption activation were presented in five categories: green technology, green products, green consumption, green industry, and carbon-neutral lifestyle practices.
Among them, Salady was recognized for its efforts in changing existing disposable products to eco-friendly materials in product packaging and modifications, as well as for contributing to resource circulation and environmental protection through separation disposal labeling and acquiring eco-label certification. Salady received the Minister of Environment Commendation in the green products group category.
Salady operates the eco-friendly campaign "LESS, BUT BETTER" to minimize the brand's negative impact on the global environment. Promotional banners for new stores are made from biodegradable materials, and biodegradable bags are sold for 100 KRW to reduce the use of plastic bags.
The Salady box used for packaging salads is FSC certified and can be separated and disposed of as paper. FSC certification is granted to products made from forest resources produced through sustainable forest management. Additionally, wet tissues are made from 100% natural pulp, and the dressing packages have recently been changed to products with lower plastic content.
Salady's eco-friendly campaign is implemented not only in stores but also at headquarters. Most disposable items such as wet tissues and paper cups are not used in the office, and supplies like staplers, copy paper, kitchen detergent, scrubbers, and tissues have been replaced with eco-friendly products.
Furthermore, Salady continuously launches vegan menu items and donates a portion of the proceeds from vegan menu purchases to environmental organizations.
A Salady representative stated, “Salady’s mission is to ‘make people’s lives joyful and healthy through food.’ The eco-friendly campaign is also operated to achieve this mission,” adding, “We will continue to strive for a sustainable environment.”
Meanwhile, to strengthen ESG management on its 10th anniversary, Salady is running an event on its Instagram where 100 KRW is donated to environmental organizations for each like received. More details can be found on Salady’s official Instagram.
