Statement Made via Facebook on the 14th
Lee Cheol-gyu, Secretary General of the People Power Party, announced his intention to resign through a Facebook post on the 14th.
On the morning of the same day, Secretary General Lee stated, "I have decided to resign from the position of Secretary General of the People Power Party for the stability and progressive leap of the party."
He continued, "I sincerely hope that the party will quickly unite and meet the expectations of party members and the public," and added, "I thank everyone who has supported me."
Earlier, the People Power Party was defeated by the Democratic Party of Korea by a margin of 17.15 percentage points in the October 11 by-election for the Gangseo District Mayor. This led to calls for party reform, including 'leadership responsibility.' Secretary General Lee's expression of his intention to resign is interpreted as taking responsibility as the person in charge of candidate nominations and stepping down.
