On the afternoon of the 13th, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, attended the opening ceremony of the 2023 Light Sculpture Festival ‘Nowon Moonlight Walk’ held at the floor fountain of Danghyeoncheon in Nowon-gu, Seoul.
Nowon Moonlight Walk, which started in 2020 and is now in its 4th year, is a representative festival of Nowon-gu that combines both popularity and artistry, attracting 660,000 visitors last year with an average of 40,000 visitors per day. This year, the scale and number of artworks were increased to expand citizen participation works, and overseas artists from Germany and Taiwan were invited to attempt various experiments and collaborations.
The theme of this year’s Nowon Moonlight Walk is ‘Alchemy of Light.’ A total of 42 works comprising about 150 pieces by 18 domestic and international artists (teams) were showcased along a 2.5 km section of Danghyeoncheon (from Sanggye Station and Nowon Mathematics Culture Center to Junggye Station and Deulgukhwa Children’s Park), including art installations, light sculptures, and new media works. Including citizen participation works, about 1,000 pieces were exhibited.
The event was held with the attendance of Mayor Oh Seung-rok, members of the National Assembly, district council members, and local residents, proceeding in the order of greetings, introduction of participating artists, lighting ceremony, themed performances, fireworks play, and rounding.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon District, said, “This exhibition not only features overseas artists but also displays works created by various residents such as people with developmental disabilities, reclusive youth, and multicultural families, enhancing empathy and enriching the visual experience. Going forward, Nowon Moonlight Walk will establish itself as a festival representing Korea beyond Nowon.”
